The midsummer legislative scramble is a uniquely Massachusetts tradition. The $58B billion budget passed with a lot more money for education, including free community college. More funding for literacy, but no new law to require evidence-based literacy instruction. And there could be changes to teacher seniority rules.

Despite efforts around recruitment and certification, there are still special education teacher shortages. Why? In part, demand, as you can see local data. After years of consistency, special education enrollment has increased.
The result? The number of students with special needs is not following the general trend of enrollment decline.
More students are getting higher scores on Advanced Placement tests. Is that a bad thing?
